The music of Stephen Dodgson has always been most welcome in programmes here at Luton Music. Stephen gave devoted service for many years as one of our Vice-presidents – but perhaps that comes as no surprise when we remember that one of his composition teachers at the Royal College of Music was Antony Hopkins, the distinguished and long serving President of our club from 1959-2014. Hearing Stephen’s music in this concert will surely whet our appetite for further celebration in 2024, the centenary of his birth. We’re most grateful to the Stephen Dodgson Charitable Trust for their support in this programme.
There are too some other felicities in the programme honouring our theme of The Ties between Pupil & Teacher. Darius Milhaud was the teacher of Dave Brubeck and Saint-Saens taught Fauré who in turn taught Ravel.
