I am ever on the look out for young emerging talents and so it’s always a pleasure to tune into the final stages of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. Watching it unfold in 2022 I was pleased to see an old friend of Luton Music accompanying a dazzling young violinist in the final of the strings section. Edward Walton was clearly already an outstanding performer but it seemed to me that, having chosen John to accompany him, his playing was being further enhanced and informed by all those years of experience that John was able to bring to their interpretation. I was thrilled to witness what I perceived as a perfect blend of youthful brilliance and seasoned wisdom.
I approached John to explore the possibility of arranging a concert for us here in Luton and he came up with a plan to share the recital with another brilliant young violinist who, alongside Edward, was being taught by one of Britain’s supreme instrumentalists, violinist Tasmin Little. This will be an astonishing evening of remarkable music making and another example I am certain of how influential are the best of The Ties between Pupil & Teacher.
